Love Is All You Need

As the end of the school year approaches, the first grade team would like to provide the students with an end-of-the-year music video project.  As you will quickly learn, such a project requires time, possibly some help from home, support in school, and tremendous creativity.

In years past, we have performed "Stay Positive" by Oren Masserman and "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra. This year, our music video will be based on the song “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles.  The common thread through all these songs is that they send a message of positivity and optimism.  Using this year's song as a basis, the students will learning on three different levels.  First, we will be learning a bit about The Beatles and the time frames in which they sang (roughly 1960-1970).  Second, the students will be asked to choose multiple projects from the “choice board”, which includes nine separate projects catered to different learning styles.

Third, as we learn and work through this project over the next several weeks, the students will have the responsibility of planning, choreographing, and filming their music video for “All You Need Is Love.”  In turn, this video will be turned into a DVD for your family to share for years to come.

Today the students were introduced to The Beatles (although most of them already knew who they were) and to the song itself.  We learned that the song was written specifically for the "Our World", the first ever whole-world live TV show.  Over 400 million (!) people watched together as The Beatles did this...
