Scrapin' the Skies

Yesterday in our read aloud, James and his rather large peach landed smack dab on top of the Empire State Building.  The students found this quite humorous, but it also sparked intrigue.  The students quickly wanted to know if the Empire State Building was taller than the Willis Tower, as well as what other tall buildings there were in the world.

With some freed up time today, we all investigated this inquiry- I didn't know either!  After some quick research, we found a wonderful graphic to illustrate the tallest buildings in the world and set off on a Google Earth adventure.

Each armed with our own iPad, we traveled from Chicago to Dubai and everywhere in between in search of the tallest buildings in the world!
As an added bonus, the students loved the man made islands in Dubai that symbolize the globe.

The past few days we have been trying to figure out the madness of fractions.  Today the light bulb went on!  We are on our way!
